Hooray, hooray, the first of May
Outdoor fucking starts today

Old Ottawa Poem

Once Monica and I got back from Nuwara Eliya, it was a bit more calm.  We made the usual trip to the Peradeniya Botanical Garden.  It never disappoints.  We did see this rather scary scorpion while we were there.
Uggh
On Wednesday, April 8 I had a lunch party so that Monica could taste real Sri Lankan food.  There were 10 of us including Jayanthi and Anand who came in all the way from Thalathuoya.  The food was great with about 8 different dishes and rice and tabbouleh.  Tabbouleh is not Sri Lankan, of course, but I found wonderful fresh mint in Nuwara Eliya and could not resist.

On Saturday, the 11th, we had the cocktail party.  We had been saving up ice so we could make margaritas when the fridge decided to pack it in on the Friday.  Since it was new year, it was a full week before it was fixed.  It was a good opportunity to clean the fridge and I even took off the panel at the back of the freezer to see what was wrong.  The fan motor had packed it in.  It turned out the bushings were shot.  It cost LKR3,000 to fix it including the call out.  Working like a charm now.

There were over 30 of us for the party.  A good time was had by all.  A couple of people brought guitars so we even had live music.  We got rid of the last of the bunch around 0030.

In between, there were a couple of invitations.  We went with Judith Smith to see Lankatilaka and Embeke temples and then to Dianne Dallas's for a spot of lunch.  Couple of days later it was lunch at Clare and David Leask's where we had a sudden deluge and a near flood because one of the drains was blocked.  After we dealt with that, it was a lovely afternoon.

It was a smooth trip with Tissa down and up to the airport and Monica made it home safely.  I miss her.
