The visa saga continues.  I am now 35 days without a visa and 2 months since I saw my passport.  My local bank accounts have been frozen.  Yesterday I had to go to the bank twice before I finally managed to get money from my Canadian account.

The friend who was handling the visa matter for me pissed off out of the country without advising me just as the visa was expiring and since then she has been dodging my calls and only sends terse text messages, if that.  In the end, and at the urging of both Sonali and Jayanthi, I threatened to file a police report saying my passport was stolen.  It is an EU passport and is worth a lot of money.

Sonali has been a great help.  She got in touch with her big business beau who immediately started turning over stones.  She also contacted a CID officer who has been most helpful.

The threat of police presence finally got Yvonne to come out from her hidey hole.  She did not call me, but she called her mother who called me.  I finally managed to impress on her mother the need for Yvonne to call me and she did.

The whole thing reads like a bad detective novel.  Turns out she was dealing with some guy she knew from the airport to begin with.  He then handed the matter over to some other guy who she has been meeting in corridors and washrooms of the immigration building.  Apparently, she met 'deep throat' yesterday and actually saw my passport so at least it is not floating on the black market.

Long story short, I have told her to get the passport back one way or the other by Monday.  She knows the CID is involved, so that should keep the pressure on her.  Once I have the passport back, Mr. Big Tuna (Sonali's beau) can get the visa sorted.  The good news is that at least I won't be deported.  The CID man says I may have to pay a fine is all.  I bet Mr. Tuna can even deal with that.

After all this, I really will have to write a book.

Missed going to the Show 'n Shine in Qualicum.  It was an annual event for so many years.  Great cars and good friends.

However, to compensate, I actually went to a party on Saturday night.  Mostly women from the Book Club, but some new faces as well.  It was nice to meet the husbands.  Great group really.  Big bonus, I got the name of a new hairdresser.  From the looks of the hair styles, a real find.  Trying her out at the end of the month.

Battle of the critters continues.  Something got into my closet room last night and chewed one of my favourite pair of shoes.  I think it was a squirrel.  I will have to start closing the window.  Damn, I really liked those shoes.  I will have to find a shoe maker who can repair them.

Cockroaches, gnats, other UFCs ( Unidentified Flying Critters), ants, spiders, mongoose, monkeys.  It never ends.  I have not experienced wild pigs at my place, but when I was over at the Kawasakis the other day, their yard had been dug up and damaged by pigs.  Quite destructive.  I will have to put up pig fencing around the garden in Thalathuoya or we won't have any vegetables.  And/or get an air gun.

The rains are back.  I don't know what rains these are, but it is pouring just like a monsoon.  I can hardly see the hill on the other side of the river.  The bonus is that it is cool, especially at night.

Still no visa.  Apparently next Monday.  Surely hope so.  If I get asked for ID, I will be in serious trouble, plus now my bank account has been frozen and card deactivated.  It will take about a week to get all that sorted once I have the visa in hand.  What a mess!

Packing continues.  This is the best way to do it.  Lots of time to sort through things and clean them up before packing.  All the carpets are done, and just about everything is off the walls.

Holy smoke, it is blowing and raining so hard that it is raining inside the house.  Windows and doors closed, so should be OK now.

Nothing else to report.  Just dreaming of Thalathuoya.

Dreams do come true!

My dream before I left Canada was to live on a small plantation.  I had even hoped that my friend Jayanthi's place just outside of Kandy at Thalathuoya would be suitable.  Well, it has happened.  Jayanthi has finally decided that she will fix up the house and we are moving to Thalathuoya.  Her husband arrived unexpectedly from India a couple of days ago, so he is going up there right away to start getting things ready.  I can hardly wait.

Here is where it is on the map.  Only 12 kms. from Kandy.  Look it up on Google Earth if you want to see what it looks like.  Paradise if you ask me.  Even room for a swimming pool eventually.  Best of all, I don't have to pay any rent.

Just goes to show that you can create your own reality if you work on it.
